Best, cheap place to stay in downtown Pittsburgh, PA?

I'm going to a Pirate game at PNC in June or July and would like to find a hotel near PNC that's not going to kill my wallet. Don't want to stay out of the city too far. Any restaurant suggestions would help too. ThanksBest, cheap place to stay in downtown Pittsburgh, PA?
Boy, it's difficult to find an inexpensive hotel downtown - or for that matter, close to town. I'd suggest signing up with Marriott's "frequent traveler" account on their website, and once you join, subscribe to their weekly email service. Every once in a while they have specials that include a Marriott property.

In town, there's a brand new Marriott Courtyard. You could walk to the ball field from there. I'd recommend not renting a car because you'd be right in downtown and the Marriott will probably charge $15/20 a day to garage your car.

There is a Residence Inn in North Oakland. It is about 3 miles from downtown, but they have a free shuttle service that if they didn't get you to the ballfield, they could get you to a bus stop that would take about 15 minutes to get to downtown Pittsburgh. Typically the rates at this property are about $119/night.

Another option would be to go on Craigslist - http://www.pittsburgh.craigslist.org - lots of people rent rooms out of their house short term. Because downtown hotels are so expensive this is kind of a cottage industry. This way you'd spend probably $50 or $60 night.

As for dining, Lidia's - which is about 6 blocks from the Courtyard Marriott - is great, but a little expensive. On the north side (where the ball field is), there's a great German restaurant called Max %26amp; Erma's (although it's not within walking distance to the ballfield).

If you venture into the east end of town, my favorite burger place is Tessaro's. Everything is mesquite grilled. Thursday night is rib night and the place is packed. Tessaro's is in the Bloomfield section of Pittsburgh.

Hope this helps and have a great time in Pittsburgh!
Pittsburgh is a little odd in that most night life, entertainment, etc., is not in the city center. You may want to focus more on the south side (restaurants, clubs, shopping), and you can walk to the game or take a boat. Less expensive probably would be in Oakland, near the colleges.Best, cheap place to stay in downtown Pittsburgh, PA?
