Jeff Reed is the kicker for the Pittsburgh Steelers and is currently their top scorer. As a kicker, he can score two ways. A field goal is worth 3 points and the extra point after a touchdown is worth 1 point. Jeff has scored 37 points with 19 kicks. How many of his kicks were field goals, and how many were extra points?

Dude, are you trying to get people to do your homework for you ?
Al do one for you and it's up to you to think hard and get the rest done, otherwise, you wont learn a thing.
" There are 13 animals in the barn. Some are chickens and some are pigs. There are 40 legs in all. How many of each animal are there? "
Here's how you do it: Let the Pigs be P and the chickens, C.
Then, P + C = 13, that is, pigs + chicken = 13 animals
And 4P + 2C = 40. That is, 4 legs for each pig + 2 legs for each chicken totals 40 legs. You thus have 2 simultaneous equations:
2C + 4P = 40.... Eqn 1
C + P = 13. .... Eqn 2.
Solve using elimination method. Multiply Eqn 2 by 2 so that you have 2C in both equations; alernatively, multiply equation 2 by 4 so that you have 4P in both equations ---- so that you can subtract and eliminate.
Thus, after multiplying eqyn 2 by 2, you end up with
2C + 4P = 40.
2C + 2P = 26
Subtract bottom eqn from top to get, 2P=14. Thus, P = 7. Substitute this into any of the equations above, to give C = 6.
Thus, 7 pigs, 6 chickens. = 13 animals.
And
4 *7 + 6*2 = 28 + 12 = 40 legs.
Good day.
if you expect me to solve these, waste my time, and gain nuthin, your soooooo wrong m8 !! =PAlgebraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.!?
TIP: Next time post one question at a time.
There are 13 animals in the barn. Some are chickens and some are pigs. There are 40 legs in all. How many of each animal are there?
Here is the set up and you finish.
Let c = chickens
Let p = pigs
c + p = 13
2c + 4p = 40
This is a system of linear equations in two variables. The variables are c and p in this case.
Can you solve for c and p now?
