I don't know if you can afford it, because I don't know how much you might save or how much of your expenses your parents will be paying at any point during college. Some people do fine, because their parents pay tuition, books, supplies, car insurance, and all they have to cover is the rent. Others find it more difficult because they are responsible for everything.
My major tip to you would be that if you are working in a retail store, don't look at the store discount as a big bonus. I know so many students who think getting a store discount gives them a license to buy clothes constantly, and they are shocked that they are out of money! I had to go through her budget with one student to point out that she was paying twice as much in clothes as she was making from that store!
If you do live in an apartment, realize that it will be a substitute for some of the luxuries you might have otherwise. Living in an apartment can be a budget-conscious choice if you start making your own inexpensive meals at home, but if your friends keep going out to restaurants, and you want to join them, then you will be paying more for the apartment AND still paying a lot for food.
so, i looked it up online and i found appartments in pittsburg, you COULD plan on living on your own if you wannted. it's way easier, for a studio it would cost about $400.00 and thats not bad for pitt. or for a 2 bedroom its about 7-8 hundered, this appartment is niice and not expensive. i think that you could afford a STUDIO but probably not a 2 bedroom, the 2 bedroom can get a little expensive. Also you can cut down a little on clothing, but not food %26lt;people need to eat lol%26gt;
so if you have need more information just email me @ Jemelialicious@yahoo.comCould I afford an apartment while living in college?
Well it would really depend on how much you would make. Rent near the University usually tends to be higher so you might want to consider something further away, but then you would have to factor in the commute cost. You should really research prices and figure out how much you will make before you move.
I am just warning you its more then you think.
Yes you will save money by living at home buuuut you will still have expenses ..gas for one. Not only that when you rent an appartment you also have to pay other sort of hidden costs such as utilites .. figure you will be spending about 200-300 on heating and water and somewhere in that range for food.. when you figure that you will only be working part time while going to school.. its difficult to balance out
I know how you feel ..im going to be 22 and dorming but its much better ..you could never find an apartment for as cheap as dorming and meanwhile you could save up for when you finish school and get a decent place then
